First Discovery
Lyon Old Town & the Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvière
Your first stop is the old town of Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage site and treasure trove of heritage and history. Your guide will lead you through the city, where you will discover the Town Hall, Bartholdi Fountain, Place des Terreaux, Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist and Place Bellecour. At the end of your tour you will head on to a special tasting session, where you will have the chance to sample authentic Burgundy specialities. Finally you will explore the stunning Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvière, also a UNESCO site, and discover the gilded treasures hidden behind its Romanesque facade.
Second Discovery
Beaune & l’Hôtel-Dieu Discovery
After your city tour, you will have the chance to explore one of the most spectacular architectural achievements in France: the Hospices de Beaune. In the 15th century this gothic masterpiece was used as a hospital for the poor, and continued to house patients until 1971. As you wander beneath the pitched ceilings you will catch sight of exquisite murals, depicting dragons and grizzly battle scenes, and discover pharmacy shelves still lined with 18th-century flasks and pill bottles.
Third Discovery
Château de Pommard Visit & Tasting
Next you will head to the local vineyard, Château de Pommard, where you will have the chance to indulge in an authentic Burgundy wine tasting session. Discover the heritage and history of Burgundy wine, as you wander through the stunning vineyards located in the grounds of the château. At the end of the tour you will be able to taste the vineyard’s iconic Pinot Noir, generally regarded as one of the best of its kind anywhere in the world.
Fourth Discovery
Château de La Rochepot Visit & Tasting
Next you will travel to the Château de La Rochepot, a dramatic 15th century castle overlooking the pretty town of Rochepot. Your guide will take you through the ancient hallways, to rooms with colourful murals, and Gothic and Renaissance style furniture. Learn about the castle’s history, fraught with conflict, and how it became one of the most iconic landmarks in Burgundy. At the end of your tour you will have the chance to sample local wine, as you sit back and relax in the stunning castle courtyard.
At the end of the tour your guide and chauffeur will return you to your hotel or residence.
If you are returning from Paris your chauffeur will bring you and your guide to Dijon Train station and take the TGV back to Paris, while in Paris a transfer from the Train Station to your Hotel or Residence will be provided.
